This rescue has problems with dogs being very ill, including dogs dying after being adopted. Sanitation issues and health issues are rampant with them.
I began my volunteer service with heartstrings animal advocates In February of this year as a foster mom. Since this is all new to me I have needed much support from the board members and other volunteers. This organization has a family atmosphere and everyone is supportive of each other. It seems we all have the main goal that we are here to advocate for our animals. Many dogs have been saved and found forever homes which makes it all worth while.
I have been a volunteer with Heartstrings Animal Advocates for 2+ yrs and a board member for 1 year. The amount of time and energy put towards the dogs by this rescue is outstanding. We give every dog, not just highly adoptable dogs, the chance to find their forever homes. We have an adopter friendly process to make adoptions safe and easy. Love this rescue and their morals and integrity.
I started as a foster for Heartstrings a little over a year ago. I was scared because I get so attached to the dogs I thought it would be hard to let them go. But it has been so much more rewarding to see these dogs go to their forever families that it is worth the tears. Then when a family sends you pictures later and keeps in touch, that is the whole reason to foster. Don’t get me wrong I have failed three times and they made great welcoming committees to all new fosters that come to my home.
We foster for Heartstrings and have adopted our sweet Cru through fostering. We’ve loved the opportunity to save animals and make a difference in their lives.
Awesome help when I found two dogs running down the middle of 400 outside of Wichita. I turned them into Eldorado Animal Shelter and Heartstrings help me get them out after the stray hold. I fostered them for a few days and then adopted them. Their help with getting all 6 of them to get along together was great.
I really enjoy being a part of this organization. They work hard to help as many babies as they can.
God Bless

I have been volunteering for Heartstrings since the beginning (over 5 years with Kara Knight). Kara asked me to keep a dog for a few days. That was a foster fail. I then lost my second Boxer and was asked if I could keep a dog for a weekend, as he was waiting for a ride to another rescue. That is how Kara Knight got me hooked. Then she started Heartstrings and I have been with them since the beginning. We, as volunteers, don't have to pay for anything. We just love and house these babies until they get a forever home, or moved to another rescue to get adopted there. They NEVER get put to sleep. We rescue these babies and get them into loving homes.
I stepped up to help foster in an emergency situation and 3 foster fails later we have had over 50 dogs go through our home that have found their forever homes! This organization loves every animals and person they come into contact with.
I became aware of HHA when I came across a picture of a cute Chihuahua mix (JD aka Jody and fka Jamie) on FB that caught my eye. I couldn’t get her out of my head. I adopted her later that week. She was the best dog. I then became a Volunteer for them when a black senior lab needed a soft place to land. I became a foster mom for them and haven’t looked back. We save the unwanted, broken, furbabies on death row and give them a home. Heartstrings Animal Advocates is a great rescue and resource for Kansas.
Heartstrings is an amazing rescue that takes many dogs other rescues will not such as "pitbull" and other breeds subject to BSL in many areas, feral, pregnant, injured, and elderly dogs. Heartstrings also assists with hoarding situations in addition to owner surrenders and dogs and puppies at risk for euth. They provide all medical treatment no matter what the issues are and provide everything a foster needs to care for the dog until it is adopted. They fund raise relentlessly and have a very dedicated group of fosters that work together well as a team with a common goal. Hands down they are the best and most respectful and professional rescue I have ever worked with.
We brought Archer home on July 3rd. The adoption process was easy but thorough. You can tell Heartstrings cares about placing the animals in good homes, but they don’t make it overly complicated. Communication was great, and we felt very informed about Archer’s medical history upon bringing him into our family. When he did become ill with Parvo a few days after coming home, they were quick to respond and helped organize treatment. We were blessed that Archer recovered so quickly and is now happy and healthy at home. I highly recommend this rescue.
We met and fell in love with Rocky (formerly Kermit) one week before our wedding. Not only did Heartstrings make it easy for us to come meet him in our town, they also allowed us to pay his adoption fee while still looking after him for two more weeks while we got married and went on our honeymoon! I believe he also ended up going to a different foster home during those two weeks, so they really were working hard to make sure we were able to take our sweet guy home after the dust had settled. They even offered to allow us to take him home to meet our other dog for a short time while their Meet and Greet event was still going on. He was only five months old, but came completely potty trained and with very few puppy habits! This was a relief for us after working with our other dog for months to get out of the puppy biting phase. He has his quirks, but he is the sweetest most loving guy that we were blessed with because of this great shelter! Thank you Heartstrings for everything that you do!
