The sanctuary seems to be well ran and also staffed with amazing volunteers who know what they’re doing and really care for the birds. This is absolutely the place in the Madison area to adopt your next feathered pet.
I’ve never seen an animal sanctuary that has more love and care for the animals they shelter. The rescue’s priorities are clear and that’s reflected in their work.
My child and I began volunteering at FFSR in the Spring of 2022. The first thing we noticed was how the well-cared for that the parrots are, and how knowledgeable the staff and volunteers are. The Sanctuary is indeed just that, a Sanctuary. The individual needs of each parrot is not only considered, but implemented for each parrot. There is a thorough adoption process, and I can say that the parrots best interest is of absolute priority. We will continue to volunteer here for many years to come. Absolutely love it here and love the parrots that we have formed meaningful relationships with.

The utmost care, compassion, and consideration for the clients (the birds) are absolutely number one priority and that is reflected in all aspects of the organization from the adoption process, the volunteer training, the cleanliness of the facility, and the hands-on approach with the staff and board members. Looking forward to volunteering here for a long time!
I had a Macaw for over 20 years. When she passed, I looked for a place to donate all of the things I'd had for her. I found Feathered Friends. When I dropped off my items, I saw they needed volunteers. So I signed up. I knew I wanted to stay around birds, but was convinced I'd never share another bond like I'd had with my first Macaw, Billie.
Fast forward 3 years and I'm still volunteering and loving it. I've learned so much about great bird care, love the people I get to see every week, and feel like I'm really making a difference.
I ended up adopting another Macaw from a pretty rough background and have been thrilled to see how he's flourished at home. That's due to the amazing knowledge and resources that I've found at Feathered Friends.
When Delta came into our sanctuary his previous owners had deemed him "unhandable." Thanks to what I learned from volunteering here, I knew he was an amazing bird that just wasn't understood.
He's now happy, healthy, and a beloved member of our family. I can't say enough about the dedicated people at Feathered Friends.
Feathered Friends is a great rescue. Volunteers deeply care about the birds that need plenty of love and patience. I have adopted my best friend from Feathered Friends- the adoption process can be lengthy, but it is to ensure the right bird is going to the right home, in hopes that the birds truly find their well deserved forever home!
I’ve volunteered here and it’sa great organization that only has the best interest of the birds in mind! They get lots of social interaction by great volunteers!
I’m so glad to be a volunteer here and have been working with many birds for almost 7 years! This is a truly remarkable loving place and giving many parrots a safe and caring shelter! I also learned a lot about our feathered friends through my volunteering experience and look forward to helping more needed birdies! My own three birds are all adopted from here!

Hard to believe I’ve been volunteering at Feathered Friends for almost 6 years and witnessed our improvement and growing impact in our community of parrot lovers! I learned a lot through my volunteering experiences and made lots of friends who care about our feathered friends! I adopted my two conures from here which were my best decisions I made in my past few years!
amazing place with knowledgeable people. adoption process is very thorough to make sure that each bird is getting to a great home and they are all in good hands. love this place
I adore birds and when I heard of Feathered Friends I knew I wanted to volunteer and help! Everyone is so nice and I really feel that they are focused on caring for each and every bird. Each bird at the sanctuary has a story and Hilary and the team make sure that potential adopters are knowledgeable and confident with the breed and the particular bird before going home. I adopted a beautiful and friendly cockatoo from Feathered Friends, after 4 months of learning about cockatoos and this particular bird before adopting. There are so many birds that need homes. Thank goo For this place.

My husband and I adopted an Amazon and a macaw since then we also been volunteering for over a year now, we love to help and spend time with our feathered friends!!! Our feathered friends get the best care from all the volunteers!!
In 2021-22 I volunteered in Belize working with a parrot & other animals. When I came back home, was looking for a local opportunity to learn more about birds. I was so surprised to find Feathered Friends so near my home! My youngest son and I started volunteering here this summer and have enjoyed it.
Awesome organization, they really care about their mission and the animals in their care. They genuinely put in so so much effort to ensure their animals have the best quality of life. Also unlike most shelters, they genuinely try to place their animals into true forever homes. Easy 5 stars
Great place, with very knowledgeable staff! They make sure you know what to expect with owning any kind of bird. That the matches are good and the bird has a forever home.
I volunteer here and I am so impressed by the quality of care. The volunteers care so much about the birds, it's inspiring. Their protocols for adopting out birds show their dedication for finding the right home for each and every bird.
This shelter truly loves their birds. Their adoption procedures are careful as they want to be sure the birds are going to a loving home. They spend a significant amount of time teaching their new bird adoption families so that everything is understood before the lovely Bird comes into their home. This shelter is truly a blessing!
I think this place is horrible to adopt from. We were looking for a macaw and met Lucy. Had 4vists and I drove an hour each way to get to know her. Vista went very well. I asked when we could take her home and they said she’s not ready. They said it could takes many many more visits!!! And look she’s still at this place 3months later!!! We could have given her a great home. Thank god tho it didn’t work out because I adopted a beautiful umbrella cockatoo from a women. She’s the sweetest girl ever. But they wonder why they are packed with parrots. They make adoption to difficult for many ppl. So NO i would not recommend this place.
I’ve been volunteering in this sanctuary for four and half years! I adopted my two green cheek conures from the sanctuary. It is now my Saturday routine to visit and work with our dear parrots! Wonderful place, wonderful people and of course wonderful feathered friends!
I began volunteering with Feathered Friends about a year ago. Since then, I have expanded my knowledge of parrots tenfold. The staff and other volunteers were extremely welcoming, especially given my minimal Parrot experience when I began. Everyone is so willing and excited to teach others new things. All of the volunteers truly have the birds needs in their mind all of the time, and will work with them for countless hours. The bonds you make here are truly one of a kind, and I could not have found a better place to volunteer at.
They really care about their birds and finding them excellent forever homes. We love our parrot from there. Sweetest bird ever
Feathered Friends is a wonderful place for birds and humans alike! The volunteers know so much about birds and how to care for them. They truly care about making good matches for adoptions and educating the people about owning a bird.
I have adopted two birds from Feathered Friends and I was always amazed by the experience. I was a volunteer for 3 years and then was promoted to board member. Owning a bird is a true commitment that takes education to be successful. The people at Feathered Friends make sure that you know exactly what you are getting into adopting a bird, what to expect and how to take care of the diverse nutritional needs they have. If you love birds, I highly recommend visiting Feathered Friends! If not to adopt to learn from them about volunteering and caring for birds. They have many people with decades of knowledge!
I had wanted a macaw my whole life but never had experience with that species. Feathered Friends saw that in me and let me visit my future adoptee as many times as it took until we were all (bird included!) comfortable with the idea of Lala coming home with me. They were patient, practical, and understanding and in my opinion did what was best for the bird--luckily for me that meant that after many educating visits, I was able to adopt Lala, a 20-year-old bird with a bald chest and the most hilarious and engaging personality!
Feathered Friends never fails to go above and beyond for their adopters, volunteers, and especially their birds. I have been adopting birds from them for over 10 years and I am always so happy with how much they care about the birds and the people alike.

I have been adopting birds from Feathered Friends for over 10 years, and volunteering as well! This organization always exceeds expectations and offers quality service at very reasonable rates. It is very clear that they are doing everything in the best interest of the parrots, and making sure that they are adopted out to homes that will truly care for them. The volunteers at the sanctuary spend a lot of time with potential adopters to make sure that the bird connects with them, and offers education along the way so even new bird owners can become more comfortable handling and caring for their new feathered friend. I can not recommend them enough!
I am on the board/volunteer at Feathered Friends Sanctuary and Rescue and adopted my macaw from them. While I am little biased, I think it’s an incredible place. I hear all the time from prospective adopters that they have been to other rescues but that they are most impressed with us and how important it is to us that both our birds and our prospective adopters are as perfect of a match as possible!
Feathered Friends Sanctuary is amazing! The birds are well cared for and the volunteers are so friendly and helpful. I'm so proud to be a part of this organization!

I love Feathered Friends Sanctuary! The volunteers and staff really love the birds we care for and take the time to help adopters find the best bird suited for their family and life. They explain what each bird is like, and they also explain what is needed to adopt a bird, and the best food/diet for a parrot. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a bird. I enjoy working with all of the volunteers we have as well as the adopters. It's fun to meet all different kinds of people.
I have had birds in my life for at least 25 years. 20 years ago my friend had no option but to surrender her African Grey parrot. I met Sandi, the founder of Feathered Friends Sanctuary & Rescue that day. I knew that day that once I could find the time, I would do whatever I could for this amazing non-profit.
Fast forward 20 years - I have been volunteering for five years, have adopted three birds, and have been on the board of directors for three years. This is an outstanding non-profit that I am proud to be a part of.

I have been volunteering here for over a year and the people are wonderful. The birds are well taken care of and a lot of thought goes into matching the right people with the right bird. They do a lot of educating about bird husbandry and behavior. I adopted my congo african grey from feathered friends and the adoption process was very thorough.
FFSR is a top notch sanctuary for parrots. I've been volunteering there since 2011 and I've sat on the board of directors for several years. Two of my birds were adopted from FFSR and it was the best decision I ever made. I love the work they're doing to help parrots and I'm so glad to be a part of it.

Feathered Friends Sanctuary & Rescue is a wonderful nonprofit organization that provides shelter and advocates for parrots and pet birds in captivity. Their mission of providing a safe, clean environment and enriched, healthy, meaningful lives for these birds is both necessary and admirable. I adopted 2 birds from FFSR 9 years ago and they are the loves of my life. I would highly recommend contacting them if you are interested in adopting a bird or learning more about parrots in captivity.
Feathered Friends is an amazing organization that provides care to captive parrots in need of a new home. Their volunteers are dedicated and devoted to helping these birds during their stay at the sanctuary and in educating potential adopters. They also provide education through outreach programs about parrots.
I have been volunteering at Feathered Friends Sanctuary and Rescue for a few months now. I decided to become a volunteer because I adopted my cockatiel, Perry, from the rescue a year ago, and he has added a ton of joy to my life ever since. My experience with adopting him was really good- everyone there was very nice, and they really want to make sure that birds go to good homes. My experience with volunteering has been equally awesome. Overall, Feathered Friends is very well-managed, and they really work to provide excellent care for birds that are looking for forever homes.
Feathered Friends is a great organization that rescues parrots and helps them find forever homes. They really work with people to find the right fit and provide education about caring for parrots. I had a great experience adopting my parrot from them.
Feathered Friends is a wonderful, wonderful place. Everyone is really nice, and the birds are darling. The facilities are kept clean, and the drive out is truly lovely. A must visit for anyone who loves parrots and wants to help them find loving homes. :)
I have volunteered her for over a year, and love every second im here! they are very knowledgeable about the birds, and the care for them. The volunteers here are always fun to work with! Im always sure to tell every person I meet about this place!
We are currently going through the process of adopting a cockatoo and are visiting the sanctuary regularly. The volunteers are so friendly and take great care of the birds. The sanctuary itself is very clean and a safe place to house exotic birds. I highly recommend going to them if you are looking for a bird or are interested in seeking out opportunities there.
When I first contacted Feathered Friends I was researching if a bird would fit in my lifestyle because I had never had, but always wanted. They answered all my questions directed me towards more resources. I adopted a Senegal that fits perfectly in my family. I went back when I was ready to expand the family again and found another perfect addition. Love this place!
I’ve been volunteering here for the last year and I am so thankful for the amazing opportunity. I’ve learned so much and seeing what they do for all these birds is amazing! Feather Friends really loves their birds and makes sure they get the best care and homes. I’ve adopted a abused bird that has been abandoned twice and about to adopt another. Birds live a long time and thankfully there is a place to take care of them when other won’t. I highly recommended them to all!
I started volunteering over a year ago. I have learned a lot about parrots and how they interact with people. I really enjoy my time every week. Additionally it is apparent that the leaders of the sanctuary care deeply about the birds and their well being.
I have been volunteering at FFSR for about a year now, and it's been a great experience since day one. My wife and I were looking to adopt a bird and we started volunteering at the sanctuary to gain experience in handling birds. We had zero experience with birds when we started, but now have a fairly good knowledge about how to handle them, feed them, and make sure that they are happy!
FFSR takes great care in making sure that the birds get the right nutrition, medications, and even sometimes their closest friends in nearby cages! Spending time with the birds after taking care of their food and water for the day is always fun! Seeing a bird getting adopted is a sad and happy moment at the same time. It is sad to know that you won't be seeing your feathered buddy anymore at the sanctuary, but it's great to know that they are going to a home who would take great care of them.
Overall, I really like spending time at the sanctuary and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to gain experience handling birds or looking to adopt a feathered friend!
My daughter and I have volunteered there and enjoyed it. The birds are so well cared for and nurtured on their own needs and timeframes. It is a special place!
Amazing place. I adopted a Macaw from there after volunteering for awhile. They take great care in providing the best care for the birds and finding them homes.
Feathered Friends Sanctuary is a wonderful community asset to help birds transition to forever homes. They clearly care deeply about all of the birds in their care and make sure the effort is put in to ensure their safety, health, and well-being.
This NFP sanctuary is one of the best I have volunteered for. Previously, my family and I have volunteered and fostered for a large non-profit organization in Minnesota, but FFSR is so very fulfilling. The parrots are very well cared for and receive the best care. I feel so great after each shift or volunteering, however, I feel even better once I finally head out after volunteering. The birds here sometimes have tragic backstories, although, due to all the work by volunteers, many of these birds receive so much love and attention by the volunteers that their attitudes towards humans completely change. These birds are so happy once they understand that they are loved by these volunteers; they are such loving creatures:... if only I could adopt them all....if you’re looking to adopt... don’t shop. Take a look at all these sweet birds needing their forever homes!!!
They genuinely care about parrots and want to take care of them, and they make sure that each birdn goes in the perfect home. Birds are number 1 most rehomed animals in the world, therefore if anyone deserves this, Feathered Friends does.
I have only been volunteering here for a few months but it has been one of the best experiences! I am so excited to continue with the nonprofit. The birds are like therapy to me and the people here are so kind and friendly.
Feathered friends is so great. We boarded our birds there while we were moving and have now been volunteering for just over a year.
We recently adopted Beakley, a harlequin macaw to join our family. Dana, Chris and the crew are amazing and truly care for the birds, looking out for their welfare above anything else.
We adopted two elderly cockatiels from Feathered Friends a few years ago. I'm really impressed with how much they care about their rescued birds and they make the adoption process very easy.
I have been volunteering at Feathered Friends Sanctuary & Rescue since September 2019. I had limited parrot experience at that time but I have learned so much about parrots in the time that I have been volunteering! I LOVE every moment spent at the Sanctuary and I truly look forward to the days I am there. Feathered Friends Sanctuary & Rescue truly cares about the the parrots in their care! If you love parrots and are looking for a place to volunteer or are looking to adopt a parrot - please consider Feathered Friends Sanctuary & Rescue. #adoptdontshop
I have been volunteering at Feathered Friends Sanctuary & Rescue for the last 15 years and on their board for 11 years. Their passion and love for the birds is evident in everything that they do. They take in parrots for all kinds of reasons. Some are abused and neglected, others are just not wanted anymore. All are treated with love and compassion. They operate entirely on donations, adoptions and boarding of birds. If you are at all interested in helping out a parrot rescue, this is the one that I would have to recommend.
