East Falmouth Nonprofits and Charities

The first young person helped by HandReach, Jolene Chinn Swartz, is now a strong, confident young woman who's an inspiration to all those lucky enough to know her. The thought of this effect multiplied across the world (now including Africa, where HandReach has just begun to operate) is amazing. We all need to help HandReach's great work on its extraordinary way.

My wife and I have been donating to Effortz for many years and it is wonderful to see how so many kids are being helped to achieve an education and better living conditions. These kids are getting a chance to live a better life and have fun because of the dedication of the great folks who founded Effortz. We have known Fred and Bebe Dudly for many years and because of their dedication and hard work to the kids of Tanzania we just had to donate knowing our donation was going directly to helping the kids. Efforts is a blessing to a lot of people! <br>Inspired by the work of the people at Effortz I wrote a song in 2014 called "Thank the Lord for the Missionaries" and performed it with Faith Journey at Buckingham Congregational Church in Glastonbury CT. People for Cats runs a small, all-volunteer shelter for cats. They help the cats of three towns on Cape Cod - Falmouth, Mashpee, and Bourne. Their goal is to find good homes for the homeless strays from the area as well as for cats and kittens that are surrendered to them by the public. PFC is a no-kill organization with a permit that restricts the number of cats that can be housed at the shelter at any given time. But once there is room for a cat to come to the shelter, medical care is provided, the cat is spayed or neutered if it needs to be, and then the cat joins one of three suites of cats living together in a cageless setting. The organization moved into a newly built shelter a year ago and visitors comment frequently about the cleaniness and homeliness of the atmosphere. An average of 225 cats and kittens are adopted from PFC annually. Besides caring for cats at the shelter and placing kittens in foster homes until they are old enough to be adopted, PFC feeds cats in several feral colonies in the town of Falmouth. Educational opportunities are provided to the community through newpaper articles and videos on the local community TV station. PFC also provides financial aid to low income cat owners, helping them get their cats spayed or neutered, getting current shots, and enabling them to get vet care when their cats are sick or injured. I have been volunteering with PFC for about 10 years and plan to continue doing so. I am proud of all the group has accomplished in those years. Our cats have gone to good homes in our area and around Massachusetts and other New England states. It is wonderful to have seen so many cats find homes where they live out their lives happily and safely.
