Abdul Sattar Edhi is the kind of individual that makes you reconsider the whole concept humanity and rekindles your faith in the power of the human spirit. Born in the 1920's in Gujarat India, he and his family relocated to the newly formed state of Pakistan during partition. Seeing the shambles and dystrophy of society as a whole, he set out his life to serve mankind. At first, he started a small dispensary, then he opened a maternity clinic, and then a morgue, and on and on his organization expanded till to the point that today, his organization has the largest volunteer ambulance service in the world, as well as the largest private air ambulance service in addition to orphanages, hospitals, retiree homes and hostels for the mentally challenged in all major cities in Pakistan. Dr. Edhi has his own accolades as well, he holds the world record for working non stop, without a day off, he works weekends, holidays (state as well as religious) day in and day out. To date he has not taken a day off since setting his record, with his age being close to 90. I challenge anyone to find an organization with such a dedicated leader and such low overhead costs.
Please don't take me word for it! I encourage you to read his autobiography ''A Mirror To The Blind'' is given out free in edhi centers and should be available for purchase online
