I do not believe this charity is good for the welfare of animals. Until there is a New Director, a New Board, and 2 New Humane Investigators, and Reform, Animal Welfare League will be substandard in my opinion.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this organization! I have brought my dogs to the vet here for the last few years and I also adopted a pet for the first time from them not too long ago. I have never had a problem when going to the vet's office even though it is alway busy the employees are always calm and friendly. Sometimes the wait is long but it is worth it for the service you get and the low cost is a bonus! My daughter's elderly dog passed away earlier this year and they were great with helping us through that process. A few months after that, my family decided that we were ready for another dog and we visited the shelter. The process to adopt was fairly easy and there were so many needy dogs there it was hard to look at them all. We found a young Beagle that we all fell in love with along with an adorable little Pug. The staff was really great with introducing our other dog to both to see if they would get along. The Beagle seemed indifferent to Miller (our Chocolate Lab) but the Pug went right up to him and sat down underneath him! Miller reached his head back and gave him a big smooch so we knew that was the right one for us! Miller and Guiness are now the best of buds and inseperable. We are so fortunate to to have had this experience with Animal Welfare League and we are so thankful to all of them!
My daughter and I volunteer at this shelter twice a month, so you see the real stuff that goes on behind the scenes. The staff and volunteers are very dedicated people. They work hard & love these animals. They take in all animals, even goats, turtles, etc. and try to place them in proper homes/facilities. I bought our dog from here and he is great. The vets are experts at what they do. Very busy place. Would be great to see donations come in for expansion or to update the shelter.

This is the only shelter in the State of Illinois which accepts strays 365 days, 24 hours/ day and renders immediate medical care to all strays entering. I not only financial support them but I am on my third dog and 10th cat(Yes I have all 10 please don't track this and report me to my Mayor)
On any given day there are over 1000 animals there- everything from hamsters, bunnies cats, dogs, reptiles, goats, pigs, steers, lambs, tiger cubs, lion cubs, monkies, ponies, horses-you get the idea. They work with rescue groups and sanctuaries to place all types of animals. When they do a large rescue they set up new cage areas so everyone gets a chance. Many employees volunteer their time after work and even bring in supplies to work to help keep expenses down. They have total transparency and I have seen potential donors given tours by the President on the fly with no appointment. They have a low cost clinic for low income clients and seniors and once per month they give away thousands of pounds of free food to low income clients. Whenever I have a bad day I go here and amazingly it energizes me. If I ever win the lottery this is one place where it's going!
