Starfish Equine Rescue does a wonderful job caring for any animal in need. Abby does a great job connecting with the community, giving people an opportunity to meet all the horses and advocating for the support of the rescued horses.

During my years in college I participated in three spring break alternative trips to different areas to work on projects with Habitat for Humanity. Recently our alumni association was feeling the void of these trips and decided to schedule trips for alumni, both individuals that had gone on trips during undergrad and those that had not. It was through these trips that I caught the Habitat volunteering bug. As a local teacher, I have summers off and in the past had always worked a second, even third job. This year I decided I wanted to take the summer off completely and volunteer with Habitat Cape May County as often as I could. One thing that really drew me to go on all the Habitat trips with my college were the great people that went and the long-time relationships that were established just from the week that we were together. Habitat Cape May County is no exception. Every person on the worksite is welcoming from the minute you walk up. There is a wonderful variety of individuals that all provide their own experience and knowledge to the worksite every day. These individuals are consistently willing to help less experienced volunteers and allow them to complete the task at hand. Every day is different on the worksite and is another reason why I enjoy it so much. I have learned so much over my trips and my time spent this summer that I know I will be able to use throughout my life both on my own projects and future worksites. I look forward to many more hours of volunteering.
