My husband & I adopted a mule from LMMR, as first time mule owners. This mule was gentle & very well trained, thanks to an AMAZING contracted mule trainer. <br> <br>4 months in to owning our molly mule, she developed an ocular medical flare up that we were struggling to treat effectively. Thanks to some bad advice from our local vet & our own lack of experience, this damaged our relationship with our mule, & she became resistant towards us. (Rightfully so) <br> <br>LMMR graciously offered to put her into training for 30 days, of no cost to us, while teaching her to accept eye medication. <br> <br>Upon returning her for training, it was noticed that she had gained a significant amount of weight during the 6 months at our farm (fall & winter) in our more lush environment. <br> <br>After much consideration & MANY tears, we felt the best decision for our molly mule, was to keep her in the hands of LMMR, in an environment more suitable for her needs. <br> <br>LMMR was gracious & kind during this process, reaccepting the mule (as promised). They even offered to return our adoption fee to us. Which we most certainly declined. <br> <br>While our experience of adoption through LMMR wasn’t the dreamy one you’d hope for, it was a good experience that we are thankful for. And we hope it was a good experience for the sweet little molly mule as well. <br> <br>While LMMR may not have gained a long term adopter through us, they have gained another financial contributor, as now our go-to charity to support is LMMR. <br> <br>We truly believe in the work that they are doing. They are transparent & kind. And their hearts are pure with the mules well-being always being prioritized over everything else. <br> <br>Matti & Patti. Collegiate Independent Study has existed since the 1980's. Over the last 30 years it has operated as an unincorporated not for profit association. As such does not provide a tax deduction to those who financially support it. At one time it was donated land and buildings. They intended to make a business incubator but the cost of remediation the contamination on the property was too great. The Small Business Innovation Center business incubator only operated for a few years and only served a small number of people. The 501c3 corporation created for that purpose was dissolved. <br><br>Collegiate Independent Study continues today. They develop free open-source software to enable documented independent study with the assistance of advanced technology and big data analytic methods including machine learning and some artificial intelligence tools. <br><br>While you can not donate to them you can certainly join them. They remain an all volunteer organization that has never had an employee. You must volunteer through a volunteer match listing. You will be working with a volunteer so be patient and persistent. You will certainly be part of something worthwhile.<br><br>The are present in a number of countries and have the distinction of birthing a number of organizations around the world. Some in countries where independent study at the collegiate level may not be considered legal.<br><br>Collegiate Independent Study is located in the State of Texas and all our activities are lawful in the USA.
