Review for Food on Foot, Beverly Hills, CA, USA
Food on Foot is a grassroots organization that directly helps the poor and homeless. They go way beyond serving food and donating clothes. They actively seek employers for their work crew who are ready to 'graduate' to more independent living--off the streets! Everything that's donated--money, food gift cards, sleeping bags, clothes--goes directly to the people they serve.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
I've seen how many people rely on the services of Food on Foot each week. Sadly, more and more now.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would wave my magic wand and make the 500 loaves of bread multiply into 10,000 so they could feed even more hungry people.
Review for L.A. GOAL, Culver City, CA, USA
I was first introduced to L.A. Goal by one of its Members who has multiple disabilities. She was--and still is--fearless, articulate and persuasive. She intercepted me at a folk art show and asked if I knew about the book that the Members of L.A. Goal wrote and illustrated: Disabled Fables [available on Amazon]. I did not so she proceeded to tell me all about the making of the book and the organization's wonderful programs that help the Members with vocational training; life skills; art and performance programs; and personal development. I left with the latest newsletter that itemized their 'wish list.' Sandwiched between "art supplies" and "printer paper" was the request for "marketing." Since that is my area of expertise, I offered my help to the organization. After volunteering in this capacity, four years ago I was asked to join the Board, where I still serve. To witness firsthand how supportive the organization is to its Members is to realize how closely connected we all are. I am reminded of this quote every time I am at L.A. Goal: "We walk in different shoes but we tread on common ground."

The staff are an extended family for the Members--and sometimes are the only family for this vulnerable population. I've witnessed how staff and volunteers give their time 24 x 7 to help improve the lives of Members--as they in turn enrich ours.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
like to see an expanded network of auxiliary volunteers.

Review for Bill Memorial Foundation, Beverly Hills, CA, USA
9 years ago we adopted two dogs from the Bill Foundation: Buddy [a border collie mix] and Dora [an Akita/Shepherd mix]. The founder cares passionately about the dogs she fosters and takes the right steps to qualify potential new owners of these wonderful animals. We love them all!

their adoption process helps ensure a successful outcome: a good match between a foster dog and a permanent home.
