Waynesville Theatre Lover
Review for Haywood Arts Repertory Theater, Waynesville, NC, USA
When my husband and I first started looking at property in Western North Carolina, we could have moved anywhere - Boone, Blowing Rock, Cashiers, Highlands, or Asheville. We were were driving down the road when we happened upon HART. The show running at the time was "Sweeney Todd". "Sweeney Todd?!?", I exclaimed to my husband. "A little town like Waynesville can support a theatre with such an avant garde and cutting edge production? This town is worth thinking about".
That was eight years ago and we've never missed a season of HART. Whether it;'s the blockbuster summer musical or a little production in the studio on a snowy winter night, we're there.
I've been involved with numerous arts organizations over a 25 year period, and I've never seen one that functions so well - consistently running in the black. Their season combines tried and true productions that everyone loves and a few lesser known but challenging projects.
What HART does for the community of Waynesville runs the gamut. They lend their theatre to numerous organizations from AARP to the Swannonoa Music Festival. They lend their considerable parking area all spring, summer and fall to the Tailgate Farmer's Market. They provide entertainment for the year round and summer population as well as the tourist, traveling through.
HART is one of a kind.
