My wife and I saw our first HART production 15 years ago and have returned for almost every production since then. We get to the theater in London every couple of years and find that the HART productions rival the West End for costuming, set decoration, professionalism and overall enjoyment. The play selection runs the gamut from small comedies to large musicals, from Chicago to the Grapes of Wrath, from an original Robin Hood to a fantastic Sound of Music, and everything in between. The superb selection of productions each season provides opportunities for the very young to the very old and demonstrates the genius of the Artistic Director, Steve Lloyd, who has been with HART from its founding. We look forward to each new production and often see shows twice. You just can't go wrong attending a HART production or contibuting to the theatre.

I was introduced to the theatre by a dear friend asked to attend a show. After enjoying that show I became a lover! The shows are very professionally done and amazing that we have such talent and expertise coming to our community. I wanted to help the theatre succeed and when I heard they wanted to build anothter to provide ongoing shows throughout the season, I was sold! I became a baord member to do just that. I invite you to join us and enjoy the high quality of the actors and shows we have to offer.

I discovered HART by hearing so many others talk about what an asset is was to our community. Frankly, I thought these were probably people with a vested interest in the organization. Well, I found out last year when I started attending the performances that if anything the reports were under estimating the value. HART touches so many constituents, the actors, the live theatre lovers, the business in Waynesville and the larger community in and out side of Haywood County. The plays are fresh, some times a little "risky" but always tasteful with all the right cautions for young audiences. One of the most interesting events HART sponsors each year is called Haywood's Got Talent. I personally helped with the auditions in 2012. The participants were virtually all local, amateur performers who got the opportunity to show their talent, get stage experience and make their families proud. How much better does it get. HART recognizes the obligations it has to the community and that the current facilities does not maximize their potential impact. The current focus to add a second theatre will go a long way to fully supporting this community. I now participate on the HART Board and find it very refreshing (especially since it is a non profit and the Board members are volunteers.) Everyone is a huge supporter of the current and future plans and works hard to fulfil the dream!!

Haywood Arts Repertory Theatre (HART) presents top notch productions of plays and musicals, and is definitely one of the best theatres is North Carolina. I have volunteered and been a patron of HART since 1998. I must say that HART continues to be one of my favorite entertainment options in WNC, and I always look forward to seeing the shows throughout the season. I can't wait to see what is next!

When my husband and I first started looking at property in Western North Carolina, we could have moved anywhere - Boone, Blowing Rock, Cashiers, Highlands, or Asheville. We were were driving down the road when we happened upon HART. The show running at the time was "Sweeney Todd". "Sweeney Todd?!?", I exclaimed to my husband. "A little town like Waynesville can support a theatre with such an avant garde and cutting edge production? This town is worth thinking about".

That was eight years ago and we've never missed a season of HART. Whether it;'s the blockbuster summer musical or a little production in the studio on a snowy winter night, we're there.

I've been involved with numerous arts organizations over a 25 year period, and I've never seen one that functions so well - consistently running in the black. Their season combines tried and true productions that everyone loves and a few lesser known but challenging projects.

What HART does for the community of Waynesville runs the gamut. They lend their theatre to numerous organizations from AARP to the Swannonoa Music Festival. They lend their considerable parking area all spring, summer and fall to the Tailgate Farmer's Market. They provide entertainment for the year round and summer population as well as the tourist, traveling through.

HART is one of a kind.

We’ve been attending shows at HART since 2000 and continue to be amazed at the quality of their productions as well as the willingness to challenge their audiences with sometimes difficult material. They offer something for everyone, from the light hearted and much loved musicals to Shakespeare to plays that generate thought about our lives. They have been pioneers in bringing to the region shows like The Full Monty and Chicago and Equus and they have brought back the classics like Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Gypsy, Amadeus and Cabaret with great creativity and ingenuity. We have seen amazing large scale productions of Ragtime, Titanic and Westside Story and poignant portrayals of Doubt and award winning performances of Martin McDonagh’s trilogy including The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Everything they take on is done to the fullest of imagination, talent and creativity. Well worth taking the time to see a show here!!

I became involved with HART in 1993, first as an actor, and later as Stage Manager, and then Director. I also was active with the volunteers, who are the backbone of the theatre. Due to family considerations, I left the area for many years, but when it was time for retirement, HART was the prime reason I chose to return to Waynesville. This theatre is a second home to me - I have made many true friends through my affiliation with it. I am constantly amazed at the caliber of talent we have in this area, and HART has been a stepping stone to a professional career in the performing arts for several young people. As HART continues to expand and evolve, its impact on the lives of people in the community and the economy of the region will grow as well. By offering a professional quality theatre experience, our value as a tourist destination is only enhanced. HART truly is, and will continue to be, a dynamc force in our Western North Carolina region.

I have been involved with HART as an actor and occasional board member since 1987. It has been rewarding to watch HART evolve from a ragtag group of players to a very well respected community theater with its own home. Under the leadership of executive director Steve Lloyd for over 20 years, HART has gotten more successful and put on better productions every year. We have never had a season in the red! Our facility is the most heavily programmed in Western North Carolina.
The personal highlight for me is that my high school senior son is the high school intern this year, being involved in every production. He plans to study theater in college next year, and his fire was significantly kindled during his time on the HART stage. There have been many kids over the years who have gone on to theatrical careers after their involvement with HART.

Haywood Arts Repertory Theater is based in the mountain town of Waynesville, North Carolina and brings the art community to new levels. This performing arts center provides a stage for the creative to come alive and plays a major role in the tourism for the area. The stimulus from this resource goes beyond community level and enriches the culture tucked within the hills. We are thankful for the foresight behind HART Theater and being part of such a marvelous regional landmark.
