Review for The National Military Family Association, Alexandria, VA, USA
The National Military Family Association is a wonderful support for the military families. I was a recipient of the scholarship award in 2004 for spouses and had made good use of the money towards my doctoral degree in Education. I was also recognized for my previous community work by the Association in 2003 so I decided to give back as a Volunteer . I have been a Volunteer for the Association since Feb 2010 and have found the experience to be rewarding. I meet military families and people who truly want to assist the military community constantly. With the support of my regional coordinator and the headquarters team, I am able to advocate for the needs of our military families through education and information gathering. There are lots of opportunities to volunteer. I enjoyed my first year as a volunteer as I was able to train with other volunteers from different regions, visit an Operation Purple Camp and spent some time with military childrem, represent the Association at different military events/functions, attempt to recruit new volunteers, work with other volunteers, learn new things through webinar trainings, be abreast of military issues through informational emails and newsletters. I enjoy being a volunteer because I feel valued and supported.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the programs they support. For example, the Operation Purple camp was appreciated by the children and their parents.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
nothing to change.
