Helping Hand Home for Children
April 18, 2011
I have been lucky enough to volunteer at HHH for 6 months and plan to continue it for many more. I love that I am able to be the calming voice at the end of a sometimes hectic day as I read bedtime stories to individual children. The staff cares intensely about the well-being of these kids, and I'm glad to be a part of their support network. Not only do I (hopefully!) help the kids, it helps me, too. I work as a nanny, and it often strikes me as surreal that despite the often horrific backgrounds these kids come from, they, just like the kids I take care of, really look forward to and enjoy something as simple as stories at bedtime. The children are always excited to see me, and I love getting the chance to end my day in such a positive way. I look forward to many more pleas of "one more story" and "read it again!"

I've personally experienced the results of this organization every time I've gone to read. The kids recognize me, we are able to build a relationship, and they look forward to having a reader.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
not change anything!
Volunteer & I read bedtime stories to the children at HHH and occasionally help with special projects.
