Review for Sturgeon City of Jacksonville, NC, Jacksonville, NC, USA
Because I am only a high school student, I have not had much work experience. I volunteered with Riverworks at Sturgeon City last summer by helping to lead science workshops for elementary students. The time I spent at Riverworks allowed me to develop important job skills such as problem solving and flexibility. The main thing that I learned was that things often times do not go as planned and that it is important to be able to handle these situations as they occur. The lessons I learned will greatly benefit me later in life as I continue my education and join the work force.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
As I volunteer I witnessed how quickly Riverworks was able to change the outlook of students toward science and school. Often times kids would arrive at the Riverworks program disinterested in science with a negative attitude, and by the end of the day those same students were smiling with excitement, and were ready to come back to learn more. Riverworks is such an affective program because it teaches students through hands on learning. This shows them how to apply what they learn in school to real life.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
It would be better if Riverworks had more summer time employees to help run the program that way it could support more students.
