Review for Centre For Development And Population Activities, Washington, DC, USA
There are now more than 5400 alumni of CEDPA's training and other programs in more than 100 countries (including the US). These alumni are now working at the community and national level to make a profound difference for women and children in their country, and to a person they tell us that they wouldn't be where they are without the leadership training CEDPA provided them. There are, in addition, tens of thousands of adolescent girls and boys who are leading safer and healthier lives as a result of CEDPA's unique BETTER LIFE OPTIONS programs, which have been implemented in Africa and South Asia. In terms of value for money, CEDPA is in a class by itself.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
I have seen the impact of CEDPA's work through participating in training programs held in DC and in meetings with women leaders around the world. CEDPA is much better known outside the US, where in almost any poorer country you can name, CEDPA is known for its quality leadership training and its commitment to women. In an international environment where women-focused organizations come and go, CEDPA has remarkable and somewhat unique staying power.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would build CEDPA's endowment so that it could reach even more adolescents and women, with less dependence on grant funding.

Review for Washington Area Women's Foundation, Inc., Washington, DC, USA
WAWF is a wonderful organization! I have served in a variety of volunteer capacities for the past 6 years, and have become increasingly impressed with the organization's vision, reach and impact. As a volunteer, I have been invited to participate in program assessments, site visits, and proposal reviews. This is an organization that knows how to use its volunteers, and an organization that realizes that it will take all of us to make a lasting impact on the lives and life chances of women in the Washington area. Bravo!

I have visited a number of WAWF grantees in the course of site visits, and I've heard first hand what being a WAWF grantee has meant. The grantees receive technical assistance and encouragement, and they become part of a larger community of organizations working to improve the economic livelihood of women in our community. The Stepping Stones program in particular is creating wealth and opportunity for thousands of women and girls.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Build its endowment so that it is able to reach more women and girls in need in our community
