I have been volunteering with the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition since 2006. My experience as a volunteer led me to run for the board of directors and I am excited to work with this effective organization to have an even greater impact. For the past several years the organization has worked hard to make the bicycle a primary transportation choice by engaging community members in fun activities, hosting Bike to Work Day and working on policy advocacy.

The work of SVBC in helping bring more San Jose residents to become involved in the planning process for the Diridon Transit Center has been critical to ensuring the future for this site is bike friendly. Other impacts of the organization include collaboration with San Jose to host a Via Velo event in 2010 which encouraged hundreds of residents to ride their bikes. Other important impacts include supporting city based Bicycle Advisory Committees on bike lane striping and safe routes to school.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would help focus the programmatic work to ensure our results have a clear link to our mission and excite people to get involved. This will lead to Increased membership and major donor contributions.
MY ROLE:
Board Member & I have volunteered for bike parking at community events and I hosted the Redwood City Bike to Work Day energizer station in 2010. .
