Guitars not Guns
January 21, 2011
I am a teacher at a school in Northern Virginia for children with serious behaviour issues. Three years ago we started the "Guitars not Guns" program in the hopes that it would give some of our students more positive options for their free time. The program has worked wonderfully! We not only continue to interest new students in learning the guitar, but our past GnG students are continuing to learn as well as helping to teach the new students! The guitars they receive at the end of the program would likely be unaffordable for these children, and they cherish them. They are all so proud of their accomplishments--we have had students perform songs they have learned at our hoilday program, our talent show, and at our graduation ceremony. I would like to thank Dan T. for his tireless efforts with some very difficult students, and for sharing his love for music with us all! It has truly made a difference!
