Center for Food Action in New Jersey
November 30, 2010
My first experience with CFA was 17 yrs ago. My company had wanted to set up a holiday food drive and we were directed to CFA as a local food bank that served a large section of our county. At that time I believe they only had 2 pantry locations. Both my company and I have been involved with them ever since. I have watched the need for food and emergency assistance grow since that time and I have been amazed and proud at how CFA has responded to this need. Their pantries now number 8 and clients come to CFA from every town in our county. CFA is a proven leader of services provided in crisis - from the aftermath of 9/11, to relocated victims of Katrina to the current economic downturn - they are there with care and compassion!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the letters and stories that have been received and shared with the Board of how CFA has made a difference in the day to day existance of so many people over the years. One story was about a client who had been recieving food and emergency assistance and had just gotten a job - but did not have the bus money to get to the job for the first week before she recieved a paycheck. CFA was able to assist her with bus money - a small amount that enabled this person to achieve some financial stability.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
expand the locations and the hours that they are open as the need is great and growing. But this requires more qualified staff and funding to properly assist the clients.
Board Member & I have organized food drives, stocked the pantries, and helped raise funds to support their various programs.
