Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington
November 29, 2010
I have worked as a volunteer caseworker at Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington for approx. 3 months. What I have come to love most about the organization is its warm & friendly atmosphere. Participants feel welcome every time they come in, a feeling they don't often get when visiting other non-profit or government agencies. I have enjoyed witnessing how participants have opened up over time as they see and feel the continued hopsitality.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
seeing participants come back again and again, excited and often surprised at their personal success in achieving their goals and excited to work with SMGW on setting/achieving their next goals.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
find additional funding to 1) increase the number of computers that participants may use and 2) to increase the number of staff members available to work with participants on a one-on-one basis on developing computer skills and completing online applications/forms.
Volunteer & As a volunteer caseworker I help participants with setting and achieving their personal goals, whatever they might be (finding employment/housing, applying for public benefits, obtaining identification, completing substance abuse programs, etc.).
