People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals
November 18, 2010

PETA gets results, period. That's why I have been donating to them for the last 16 years and will keep on giving them as much money as I can afford. I would wish for personal wealth solely to give it to PETA. I am continually impressed by the inventive strategies they deploy to effect change for animal welfare, like becoming stockholders in soulless corporations and gaining entry into their meetings. I have also had the privilege of meeting a number of PETA staff and to a person they are obviously deeply dedicated to their brave calling. They are heroes in my book. This is urgent work and there is no point to playing nice with animal abusers.

The Great!

PETA has a strong record of "firsts," including getting the first-ever conviction of a vivisector in the US, the first confiscation of abused animals from a lab, and the first US Supreme Court for animals used in experiments. I live on the West Coast and am thrilled to witness the opening of a new LA home, thanks to Bob Barker's extraordinary $2M gift. Partnering with media celebrities is a very effective way of getting attention and raising awareness.

Generously endow their administrative expenses so they can push their work ever farther throughout the world, with competitive salaries and benefits for all staff.

MY ROLE:
Donor & I buy products from PETA, like the cruelty-free shopping guide, and get them out in public. .

United Way of the Bay Area
November 17, 2010

United Way of the Bay continually challenges itself to raise the bar to improve the lives of families in the Bay Area. They are currently doing an astonishing job of bringing together community partners to establish SparkPoint Centers in the seven counties they serve - one-stop centers where anyone can go for resources to establish financial stability for self and family. Incredible things are happening. Go to youtube.com and search for SparkPoint American Canyon and you will see first-person stories. United Way of the Bay Area has tightened and sharpened its focus for the 21st century. They are governed by a volunteer board of expert professionals and you can see who they are at www.uwba.org, as well as learn a lot more about their work and how you can help your neighbors, too.

Referring others to 211, a number anyone in the Bay Area can call to find help and speak with an expert who can advise them about resources available to them. The 211 staff at United Way have also been the back-up responders during Hurricane Katrina and the fires in San Diego and Los Angeles, guiding people to shelters and services.

Help them to become endowed by a rich benefactor, like Bill Gates did for the United Way in Seattle. The endowment covers their administrative costs, enabling them to return more money raised into community services.

MY ROLE:
Professional with expertise in this field & Donated for the last nine years.
