Communities In Schools-Baytown helps students to stay in school by providing case managers on middle school and high school campuses. They also provide after-school and summer school programs to help limit gang activity in the community by providing tutoring, supportive guidance, career and college planning activities for high school students.

I have had the pleasure of seeing students with little interest in college become excited and hopeful about the possibility of going to college. I have heard the talk on the school bus back home change to "If I talk to my guidance counselor about financial aid" and "If I get some tutoring then maybe..." The change in attitude was amazing when they saw what they could have in 1-2 years and talked to college students were once just like them. They had hope.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Make the community more aware of what this organization is doing - give them more people and resources. Some of their employees give extra time and money out of their pockets to do their jobs. For example, the employees that accompanied us on the field trip made breakfast for the students that may not have eaten before the trip and brought snacks for them from their homes.
