Healthy Start Kitsap got it's start from the Silverdale Rotary. A group within the Rotary met after seeing a local newspaper story of child abuse. The goal of Healthy Start Kitsap is to "prevent child abuse and neglect in Kitsap County. To find and cultivate programs toward this goal." The program that they are currently developing is Nurse Family Partnership. This is a nationally known program, 35 years old, in more than 400 locations in the US which operates a nurse home-visitation program by public health nurse. Through an extensive weekly home visitation program, they teach and work through education modules which help these new families in many ways. It is an empowerment program; not a giveaway. Results have been extensively studied and can be reviewed in depth at A small sampling of the proven results includes a 48% decrease in child abuse and neglect, a 56% decrease in Emergency Room visits for accidents and poisonings...and much more. Check out!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

There are thousands of families who have gotten their starts under the protection and education of a NFP public health nurse!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make it available in every community in the US!

More feedback

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Discovering the needs in our community

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

All dedicated volunteers

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Be permanently endowed to perform nurse home visits for 100 families on an ongoing basis to the child's age of 2 years...forever.

Ways to make it better...

The Nurse Family Partnership could get started...

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funding. We need a certain level of funding to just get started as a Nurse Family Partnership Program. Currently HSK is funding home visits with public health nurses working for Kitsap County Health District. NFP is a much more extensive program...soon

One thing I'd also say is that...

Donate money, get involved. This program represents a societal solution for the future.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

Volunteer & I am helping to get the nursefamilypartnership rolling in our county!.
