Review for Animal Legal Defense Fund, Cotati, CA, USA
I support the ALDF on both a professional and personal basis. From a professional standpoint, ALDF has consistently and successfully crafted novel theories of law to increase legal protection of animals and enhance the legal protections available to animals under existing laws. And personally, there has never been a time when I called upon ALDF with a question or concern that I did not receive a thorough and reliable response. An excellent example of the forward thinking work of ALDF was in Virginia in 2008. In the wake of the Michael Vick tragedy, the ALDF drafted a bill approved by the Virginia Assembly and signed by the governor adding dog fighting to the list of crimes that can be prosecuted under the Virginia Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) laws. ALDF gets the job done.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Louisiana is my home. While other non profits offered talk concerning the BP Gulf oil spill, ALDF took action. Filing suit against BP alleging violation of the Endgangered Species Act, ALDF brought relief to turtles being burned alive. That's personal.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would make no changes. ALDF uses their funding wisely, maintains a competent staff, is led by a top notch Executive Director who keeps ALDF on mission, and informs supporters of their work through a comprehensive website, newsletter and law journal.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Where other organizations say it can't be done, ALDF says it can be done and they do it and do it successfully.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Top notch. Always thinking of another way to promote animal welfare through the legal system.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Save 10 million animals.
Ways to make it better...
Every interaction I have had with ALDF has been educational, rewarding and encouraging.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Obtaining the necessary funding in a slow economy to continue their work. The mission and work of so many non-profits is, frankly, redundant, but ALDF has a specific focus, they stay on mission, and get the job done.
One thing I'd also say is that...
ALDF has proven that the organization is very worthy of the support of anyone who supports animal welfare. ALDF gets results.
