Review for Sugar Loaf Community Foundation Inc, Sugar Loaf, NY, USA

Rating: 1 stars

I am saddened by this organization's abuse of non-profit funding. It's president has written grants exclusively subsidizing another group which professionally employs him. Like many others, I left this organization when its current president began this culture of serial misconduct shortly after taking his position. I will be contacting the New York State Attorney General's office to report this fiscally abusive "charity".

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Working with it before the present president (Paul Ellis) became involved. Soon Mr. Ellis began a culture of using the sugar loaf community foundation 's grantwriting to fund another organization, Kings Theatre, Inc., which employs Mr. Ellis.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Either disillusioned with the group or entirely naive.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

do some good, but would be far more likely to find a way to put that funding into the president's pockets

Ways to make it better...

There were integrity and accountability in the org.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Staying in operation with the misconduct of the present officers

One thing I'd also say is that...

This group is being reported to the NYS AG's office.

Role:  Volunteer & I assisted with fundraisers and advertising until I notices that funding was being funneled to the president's employer.

Review for Save The Frogs!, Santa Cruz, CA, USA

Rating: 1 stars

I was saddened to find that "savethefrogs" is a front for an otherwise unemployed individual to profit from. After careful research of this organization it it is clear that nearly all received funding goes toward paying the CEO's rent, meals and leisure activities, with little left to fund any direct efforts toward amphibian conservation. The CEO uses the group as a mechanism by which to pay his personal expenses, expand his social life and meet new women. The CEO, Kerry Kriger, has proven to be highly enthusiastic in pursuing social connections with naive, concerned female donors while remaining unwilling to pursue real conservation efforts. "Savethefrogs" serves as a model of non-profit abuse.

Role:  Professional with expertise in this field & I researched savethefrogs for my original plans to help their efforts, until I learned of the group's actual agenda.
