Review for LONG ISLAND FELINE ADOPTION CENTER INC, Smithtown, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This CAGE-FREE cat and kitten shelter truly utilizes every penny of donations for the care of cats and kittens. Not one penny goes to salaries or parties related to the officers or "owner". This is wholly unlike most other charities. Additionally, the care provided is outstanding. The cats and kittens are maintained in a spotlessly clean and bright environment, filled with entertainment (toys, trees, TV with cat dvds) and love. The volunteers who make up this organization at any time are caring for over 1000 cats and kittens, some at its adoption center and many more at foster homes or in colonies cared for by the volunteers. In fact the volunteers have provided radiant heated cedar homes for some of the colonies. The result of LIFAC's approach is an extremely high rate of success in restoring or creating love of person in cats that had been betrayed or abused by people in the past. The cats and kittens ready for adoption are extraordinarily loving, as a result. This is a great organization. If only all the other shelters and rescues were like this...

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Successfully socializing cats and kittens and placing them in loving homes.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them more money so they could do more good work.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing happy cats and kittens find loving, happy homes.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very capable and caring.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

create a national, certified, network of feline adoption centers that could find homes for tens of thousands of cats and kittens and improve the lives and welfare of hundreds of thousands more.

Ways to make it better...

They had more resources (money, etc.) to expand their reach.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

attracting donations in a world of sleazy charities that siphon money for personal benefit - and have made raising money an art form since they PERSONALLY benefit. NO ONE PERSONALLY BENEFITS FROM THIS CHARITY - ONLY CATS AND KITTENS DO.

One thing I'd also say is that...

individuals who profit from charities by taking excessive salaries or converting the assets for personal benefit (use of house, apartment, travel, etc.) should be prosecuted by the Justice Department the same as a teller who steals from his bank-employer.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010
