Share Self-Help for Women with Breast or Ovarian Cancer, Inc.
May 28, 2010
I was introduced to SHARE through a friend after my breast cancer surgery. I joined a 6-week support group at SHARE's midtown office in Manhattan. The facilitator, knowledgable and excellent in providing answers to questions that participants had and encouraging the group to participate in open discussions which helped to lighten the burden of dealing with the treatment and therapy following surgery, a highly anxious time in my life. I kept in touch with SHARE volunteering during the fund-raising walks that SHARE had and later participating in advocacy programs in DC and Albany. I served on the hotline for four years knowing I was empowering women during a difficult stage in our lives.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
expanding my knowledge in the science of BC. Through SHARE I've taken training in this area. As a result of the training I've become more confident in reading articles about BC and feel more adequate in dealing with it should a recurrence occur.
