Review for SHARE Self-Help for Women with Breast or Ovarian Cancers, Inc., New York, NY, USA
When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1990, and then again when I got hit with both breast and fallopian cancer in 2007, SHARE was a mainstay of support and information. The 1990 experience included a support group of women like myself -- premenopausal with young children -- which helped to lessen my isolation as a younger person with an older woman's disease. In 2007, again I found myself in a minority, this time with a BRCA mutation. And again, particularly through SHARE's peer referral system, I was able to talk with women who had also been diagnosed with a mutation and had to deal with the cancers and multiple surgeries and procedures that followed.
