Review for Acorn Productions, Westbrook, ME, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Acorn Productions is the only theater group in southern Maine that supports the theater community in an inclusive and productive fashion. I have taken acting, auditioning and playwriting classes at Acorn and they have experienced and fabulous instructors. The Maine Playwrights Festival is one of a kind here in Maine and the only place I have found truly thought provoking theater since my return. Naked Shakespeare brings 'high art' to the pubic like no other group in the area. Acorn's regular staged readings of local playwright's work, their audition newsletter, their kid's programs and phyzigig and hosting an annual auditioning event are just some of the ways they nurture theater artists of all ages and levels of experience. I would be bereft living here in southern Maine without this organization.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

attending their classes, staged readings and productions.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I have to think about this one ..........

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

New and socially relevant scripts and productions.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Professional, experienced, welcoming and dedicated.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Support theater artists of all ages and at all stages of theater production. Expand the type of live theater offered here, where diversity and social relevance is generally lacking. Provide more performance spaces for companies who don't have their own.

Ways to make it better...

they were a bit more pro-actively open to non-core participants becoming involved in their stagings and productions.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Recognition and funding because they are not an equity company (with those artistic limitations).

One thing I'd also say is that...

I hope to be able to work with Mike Levine on my own production in the future.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
