Review for OUR HEARTS TO YOUR SOLES, Ingomar, PA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Great opportunity to provide health care and a needed supply to people in need.
It is not recognized for its value to the community as it provides working poor shoes and medical care.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the last 5 years. Seeing people leave better off in physical and psychological ways

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find a way to get more companies to give shoes; too much difficulty in US companies giving shoes to US citizens

Role:  Professional with expertise in this field & I helped do clinical exams and organize the MN event.

Review for OUR HEARTS TO YOUR SOLES, Ingomar, PA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

It has been my honor to coordinate the Minnesota division of Our Hearts to Your Soles. Once a year we bring together health care providers, shoe fitters and their respective friends and families to provide free foot exams, basic foot care and a new pair of shoes and socks. During the last 3 years we have examined and shoed more than 1100 homeless men, women and children. It is heart-warming and incredibly rewarding as a participant. The MN branch, like our parent organization, has essentially no administrative costs. Nearly everyone who works at the event donates their time and St. Stephen’s Shelter provides the gymnasium at no cost.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the appreciation expressed by so many we have helped

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Spend some money on a serious PR campaign to encourage awareness of this wonderful cause

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

How obviously rewarding the event is to the volunteers. While the homeless get the medical care, socks and shoes; the people who donate express such great joy being there to help.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Giving families (children as young as 9 to retired shoe fitters in their 80's)

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Expand the difference beyond one time a year and in one citty. One cannot get work without healthy feet and shoes

Ways to make it better...

we could have better attention from news organizations to encourage more donation

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Lack of recognition and lack of funding

One thing I'd also say is that...

Red Wing's donations of thousands of shoes and the selfless efforts by the Contis to coordinate 42 states need to be acknowledged.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  Volunteer & We provided free foot and ankle exams, socks and a new pair of shoes to the homeless of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
