Review for The Wild Animal Sanctuary, Keenesburg, CO, USA

Rating: 3 stars

Everything is great once you are inside. The parking is an issue. If you park in the north lot you exit in the south lot and then have an incredibly long walk back to the north lot. This in and of itself makes it an unfriendly place for the elderly, the disabled and children. If the parking situation were addressed, then the experience would be great, but it's like ending dinner with a terrible dessert and cold coffee. It left a bad taste in our mouth. Please fix this. Some suggestions, perhaps a shorter walkway in between the lots or even a shuttle to drive back and forth between the lots. It is an issue that needs to be addressed. Thank you.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The Sanctuary is an outdoor experience - much like hiking in the mountains or going on a nature walk in a national park - so all visitors need to have realistic expectations when coming. The term "Mile Into The Wild" is used to make sure visitors understand the distances they will be walking, and the Sanctuary's web site, as well as the orientation visitors receive before they go up onto the walkway discuss the fact that it is a long walk. 99.9% of visitors come prepared and with the realization they are going on a physical outdoor walk, and all of those leave considering it to have been a wonderful experience. Only those people that come without taking the time to read more about the walkway, and that don't take the orientation seriously, have an issue. The Sanctuary has thousands of senior citizens visiting every month throughout summer and winter with no difficulty at all, so it's definitely a positive experience for young and old as long as they come prepared.
