Review for FRIENDS WITHOUT A BORDER, New York, NY, USA
I first learned about FWAB when I was in Cambodia and our guide told us how the lives of so many of his friends' children had been saved because of the FWAB hospital there. I later discovered the administrative office for FWAB to be located near where I live in New York City and I have been volunteering ever since. I have never met a more dedicated group of workers and volunteers. The model is to create a locally-sustainable and independent hospital after the initial start-up period. Today, 98% of the more than 500 staff at Angkor Hospital for Children Cambodia are Cambodian. In 2015, FWAB opened another pediatric hospital, this time in Laos.
Review for International Fund for Animal Welfare, Inc., Yarmouth Port, MA, USA
I have been a donor to IFAW on an annual basis for many years and also contribute as needed when there is a crisis anywhere that will affect animals (for example, the typhoon in the Philippines, the Ebola epidemic in Africa that affected chimpanzees as well as humans, and the ongoing strife in Ukraine that puts pet dogs and cats at great risk). IFAW is there to help animals that are often overlooked in times of human peril.
Review for The American Anti-Vivisection Society, Jenkintown, PA, USA
AAVS improves the lives of animals through citizen activism, in-depth reports, legal strategies, and honest, compelling public education. Its many successful campaigns and programs include humane science education, alternative research, and sanctuary support. I use their compassionate shopping guide when purchasing cosmetics and cleaning supplies.
