I love Last Chance. We got our kity from them and while it's true they do not do any screening I beleive it's because their main goal is to get animals out of high kill shelters, get them spayed/neutered and medical care. they just don't have the time or resources to background check everyone that adopts a pet. If they did it would totally slow down the whole process. many of their workers are volunteers. In addition, doing a background check on someone doesn't always mean that person isn't going to neglect or abuse the animal. They DO require that once you adopt a pet, that you contact them "within a certain timeframe" with proof of your first vet visit. They also DO ask that you periodically post photos or an update on their facebook page or email. I feel they are doing the very best that they can and rescue a LOT of animals each year. Without Last Chance, our Missy would have been euthanized :( Can they do things better? Of course, there is ALWAYS room for improvement with everything and maybe one day if & when we don't have SO many unwanted pets, there will be more time and resources to properly screen adopters but for now I'm forever grateful to them for all the hard work they do.
