Review for Heaventrain, Cleveland, OH, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I first heard about HeavenTrain in 2011 and soon after was asked to be on the board. Since then I have had many great experiences with the kids and their caregivers in the communities that they serve. It also has been a great experience to share this joy with the other board members and volunteers that have joined in working with the kids over the last 12 years.

Not too long ago I met a young father at a gas station where we were filling up the HeavenTrain bus. He saw it and said that he was a HeavenTrain kid and sang a few bars of the 'Heaven is a wonderful place" song we use as the kids get on the bus. He said it was the closest thing to church that he had experienced in the community. He now had two young sons and said that he should start bringing them to HeavenTrain.

It was great to watch the Grade 6 and Grade 8 basketball teams play in the 5 AAU league tournaments they entered. Each new game showed their improvement as a team and demonstrated how team play out-shines trying to win on just individual effort. High five to the coaches! It was also very rewarding to be able to simply share time helping to get the boys to and from the events and listen to them as they interacted with each other.

I learned about Lighthouse and HeavenTrain through a friend and helped out in a planning session earlier in the year. I was impressed with the results, their insights and compassion for the community, especially for the kids.

It was great see HeavenTrain in action during a Saturday morning visit. The connection to the people in the community was tangible.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Watching mothers and their children come to enjoy some lunch and play.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

No changes, but there are always opportunities to continue to refine and expand their ministry.

Role:  Board Member & I played ball with some of the kids in a nearby park in the community.
