Review for National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, Inc., Santa Paula, CA, USA
The NDSDF is one of the most effective charitable organizations in the US. Its founder, Wilma Melville, truly is an American hero, as recognized by CNN, for her pioneering vision of matching rescued dogs with rescuers. The NDSDF also is a great example of partnership between private charity and public safety agencies, and should serve as a model for public-private cooperation in other areas. Like so many other people, I watched the search dogs at work during 9/11 and wondered what an ordinary person could do to help. The NDSDF was the answer. Since then, NDSDF dog and handler teams have responded to disasters around the world, and continue to add teams. The expansion and continued success of the NDSDF is proof that contributions are put to excellent use, and have produced priceless results. The staff of the NDSDF is professional, dedicated and hardworking, and I am proud to continue to support their outstanding efforts.
