Review for Project Amigo, Novato, CA, USA
We discovered Project Amigo a number of years ago when I took my pre-teen sons to learn what kind of an impact they could make helping others. It is remarkable how the project has, through some simple incentives, encouraged children to enter and then stay in school in this very poor corner of rural Mexico where education had not been part of the culture.
In supporting the education of so many children through grade school, high school and even the University, through incentives, homework clubs, computer labs, medical and dental help and scholarships, Project Amigo is changing the culture in this part of the world.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
We have known several of the graduates, a physician, lawyers and teachers. One young woman with a very difficult family history has become a huge influence on other young girls from the community. We have watched the nearby migrant labor camp become a stationary community through the development, construction and support of a small school. Most of these children are the first in their families to read and write. We presently sponsor two children, one in High School and the other at the University.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would make no changes. I do have some concern about the longer term financing of this amazing project as Ted and Susan approach retirement. I can't help but think that this project is the perfect template that could be replicated in other areas of poverty given dedicated people like Ted and Susan.
