Review for Water for People, Denver, CO, USA

Rating: 1 stars

This organizations recent (2009) Form 990 indicates that about $3 million goes to salaries, for an organization with 5 employees, out of their $8 million revenue. Something doesn't make sense here. Simply the fact that about 38 cents of every $1 of revenue goes to salaries in the organization is concerning- why the high overhead? And for only 5 employees? Where is the $3 million in salary & compensation going? This organization needs a full and transparent audit before I even consider donating.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

No

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Explain to the public why they consume $3 million for salaries out of $8 million in annual revenues.

Role:  General Member of the Public & Professional.

Water For People has about 150 employees throughout 10 countries. Not sure how the miscommunication was caused, but we completely welcome any questions about costs and compensation. Transparency is of utmost concern for us. Please check out the 2010 990: http://www.waterforpeople.org/assets/pdfs/financials/2010-form-990.pdf. To contact us, please email info@waterforpeople.org. Thank you

Review for United Negro College Fund Inc, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 1 stars

Quite outrageous, but typical, that this Non-Profit, with annual revenues of over $200 million, gave their employees a 3% pay raise despite their annual revenues DECLINING by 17.5% from 2008 to 2009, and they still managed an average employee salary of over $75,000 per year- almost DOUBLE the median American household income. What a gesture to give yourself a 3% pay raise when so many Americans lost their jobs, or got no pay raise, during that period. Wow, now that's charity- pay yourself first, right? How hypocritical, arrogant, and greedy of this Non-Profit to abuse their tax exempt status and use tax payer subsidy to enrich themselves.. The IRS should revoke the tax exmempt Non-Profit status of the UNCF, as it seems to only exist for the primary benefit of the Non-Profit employees themselves.

Declined solicitation.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Revoke their Non-Profit tax-exempt status.

Role:  General Member of the Public & Tax payer.
