Family Scholar House, Inc.
July 29, 2011
I have been a participant at FSH for 4.5 years. I came to them in 2006 not truly understanding exactly how their program could benefit my daughter and I. They provided us with stable housing, scholarship opportunities, a donated car and most importantly a support system. Since becoming a part of FSH I have grown tremendously as a student, parent and overall as a person. I received an Associate degree in 2009 and transferred on to work toward my Bachelors degree in Sociology. I am now one semester away from graduating and currently working as an intern with FSH, all made possible by their great organization. My daughter and I could not have hoped for more. She has made many friends and become a part of a great community over the past 4.5 years. We can honestly say that we have gained a family at Family Scholar House. As an intern I am now getting the chance to help others and become a living testimony to how this program has changed not only my life, but the life of my daughter.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Case management, academic advising, scholarship opportunities, donations.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Before Family Scholar House grew to become all that it is now, it was known as Project Women- a much smaller organization but still with the same mission. The time I spent as a resident before the program expanded was more of a close knit community and it seemed we had better relationships with our neighbors and the staff. Since the expansion the program has a changed a bit and many of the participants who experienced the change have reported not feeling the same toward FSH.
