Review for Institute for Humane Education, Surry, ME, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I co-founded this organization, so I know I'm biased, but I'm proud of what we've accomplished. We launched a comprehensive humane education movement linking social justice, environmental sustainability, and animal protection; created the first graduate programs in humane education in the U.S., offered through an affiliation with Antioch University (M.Ed., M.A., Ed.D. Graduate Certificate); and our Solutionary Framework is being embraced by teachers and educational administrators and integrated into classrooms, school districts, and counties, and has even sparked a solutionary school in India. The people attracted to this work and the vision of educating a generation of solutionaries are amazing, and our alumni are leading the way, bringing humane education into communities across the globe.

I admit I am biased because I co-founded this organization, but I did so because I believed it was essential for an organization to address the underlying cause of so many problems in the world: lack of essential education that prepares young people to be excellent researchers, able to identify systemic causes of interconnected local and global challenges, think critically and creatively, and solve problems through collaboration. The Institute for Humane Education (IHE) provides access for educators and advocates for positive change from an award-winning free resource center, graduate programs for the deepest levels of preparation, workshops, and a Solutionary Program for middle and high school students who learn to solve challenges within their school curricula. I believe education is the root system underlying all other systems, and IHE is working to transform this system for the benefit of students and the world they will both inherit and shape.

Review for Food Empowerment Project, Cotati, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Many groups work on single issues, producing results for one group, but sometimes at the expense of another. FEP bridges social justice issues bringing people the tools for sustainability, healthy, and humane living simultaneously. This is so important! A great organization that helps impoverished and disenfranchised people, empowering them while also ensuring that the environment and animals are protected at the same time.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

their outreach to the community

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make it bigger so it could achieve more!

Role:  Advisor & I advise FEP and donate as well. I think they are tireless and see the big picture.
