American Kidney Fund
June 29, 2011
I am proud to be associated with this phenomenal non-profit organization. The AKF is one of the most charitable and efficient organizations I know. To prove this point, in 2010, 97 cents out of every dollar raised by the AKF was spent directly on patient services and programs. These programs reach, help and educate, thousands of American individuals with kidney disease, including the most vulnerable patients, ie: the poor, minorities, those with limited English proficiency. These patients have a particularly high risk of experiencing adverse health outcomes while on dialysis and are in most need of outreach and education. The AKF fills this health care gap, among others. I can't say enough positive things about this organization.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
I am currently an AKF Clinical Scientist in Nephrology Fellow. Thus I am directly benefiting from this organization's goal to develop young physicians into independent, high-caliber clinical researchers who can and will improve the overall health of kidney patients worldwide.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I have been particularly impressed with this organization's focus on kidney awareness and education. I strongly believe that education is the starting point for any change and improvement, and therefore would recommend that the AKF perform additional kidney awareness events and screenings.
