CoachArt is a perfect blend of my passion for art and my desire to help patients with chronic illnesses - I started as a volunteer in October 2010 because I truly believed in their mission to improve lives by engaging the community and taking a holistic approach. The organization recognizes the importance of the arts and athletics as a means for the chronically ill youth to take their mind off of their debilitating illness. I was lucky enough to witness some of the activities we introduced the kids to turned into real passions and some mentor-youth relationships deepen over the years. The gratitude in the CoachArt parents' eyes and the kids' excitement confirmed that this was a meaningful way to improve the lives of these families. Yet the CoachArt families are not the only ones benefiting from this organization: the mentors unanimously report that their time mentoring CoachArt youth has been rewarding, eye-opening, and extremely special. What a wonderful organization that benefits every individual involved!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
As a volunteer, mentor, event planner, and mentor-youth coordinator, I've been able to see how CoachArt affects each and every member of its community. I've mentored three young children in painting, organized clinics and classes for kids in disadvantaged areas, brainstormed with volunteered for new classes, and helped organize our very first summer camp! CoachArt is ever-changing but the core mission to improve the lives of chronically ill children never changes.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would make the organization national. There are so many children around the country that need the support and help the way CoachArt provides it.
Professional with expertise in this field & I volunteered, interned, and am a mentor-youth coordinator here.
