Watson Children's Shelter, Inc. Overview
Programs: Watson Children's Shelter cares for 70 to 100 children annually. The program is designed to facilitate a healthy, nurturing environment, reduce feelings of trauma, assess and connect children to any medical, dental, therapeutic or other needed services. The average stay is 45 days, though some children require a longer period of shelter until their natural home or a foster, adoptive, group home or therapeutic placement becomes available. Children attend school, do homework, play games, read stories, celebrate each other's birthdays. They are given the opportunity to be kids, in a safe, nurturing home. WCS maintains a well-trained, professional staff dedicated to creating an environment that is nurturing, structured, age and developmentally appropriate.
Funding is received through a fee for service from the State of Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services who are authorized to place children in care, grants from United Way, the Missoula County Poor Fund, as well as private gifts, donations and special events.
