Programs: Yei discontinued all program services during fye 6-30-14. Program services expenses were incurred in the following programs prior to discontinuance: ged program (portland public schools) teaching staff at the youth employment institute utilized diversified learning strategies that promote lesson ownership, group work and critical thinking. They engaged youth in a creative, professional environment. Yei's alternative school setting met the demands of youth working to overcome multiple barriers to success including: criminal backgrounds, teen pregnancy and parenthood, homelessness, gang-affiliation and strained living environments. Yei's approach to education included strategies that support youth with employment training and social services, building skills that address deficiencies in multiple areas and preparing youth for the next step in their career. The ged program also offered comprehensive assessments, connection to a case coordinator, computer and life skills instruction and opportunities to earn financial incentives. Specialized teen parent programming was also offered to young men and women featuring parenting education and supplemental life skills classes. Yei also featured a child & family development center (cfdc) offering child care services for children ages 6 weeks to 36 months. Casey (cejt/transition) continuing education and job training (cejt) was a casey family program that provided three-part support: a scholarship grant, continued living and health-related support, and case management and oversight. All three components were meant to assist eligible youth in gaining the skills, education and training to be self-sufficient adults. Tuition and financial support for college-related expenses, and, to a lesser extent, personal and academic supports are available to youth already in postsecondary education and training. Age range: 18-25 forestry program: the forestry program worked with multiple partners including the us forest service, oregon youth conservation corps and bureau of land management. Primarily serving youth of color and disadvantaged youth in portland, this program provided work experience for youth aged 14 - 21 while promoting natural resource stewardship and understanding of conservation issues. Participants developed basic workforce skills and have the opportunity to observe resource managers and forest service employees as a means of demonstrating career opportunities
