healthy living: the y advocates healthy living from the inside out - spirit, mind and body. In 2014, 85,000 people were provided the supportive relationships and environments they needed to successfully pursue good health. Adults participated in diabetes prevention programs, physical rehabilitation, programs for parkinson's and cancer patients, health screenings and lectures, fitness and social opportunities for active older adults, group exercise and specialty fitness classes, personal training and "spirit mind body" classes such as yoga and stretching. This is particularly important as our nation struggles with work/life balance and personal fulfillment. The y offers the healthy kids & families program and the program, mend, which provides both prevention and intervention of childhood obesity. Our family programs bring families together, offer education, support, nurturing, and social networks that build relationships and strengthen family bonds. See schedule o for additional details.
social responsibility: the y provides a variety of programs that help people deepen positive values, learn the value of giving back, and commit to learning. The y partners with more than 20 local community organizations to identify needs and respond to them - such as programs for at-risk teens, after school volunteer work, leadership in training programs, internships and values based programming. The y also houses and/or provides program space free of charge for the safe exchange program, the foster parent training program, and intercambio esl classes. In 2014, the y engaged 6,000 youth and young high school students in programs that developed social responsibility, strengthened the community, and help build the foundation for generations to thrive.
