WRRAP assists poor women and girls across the U.S. who are unable to exercise their rights to a safe abortion because of financial concerns. Since the organization is staffed by volunteers, over 90% of all the money raised goes directly to pay for services for these women and girls at the clinics they choose. The money is a grant and does not need to be repaid. In over 70% of cases, the man abandons the woman when he finds out he's impregnated her. This organization does noble work.
WRRAP has been providing financial help for abortions to needy women all over the United States. Based in California, this all-volunteer group was begun 21 years ago by its current President, Joyce Schorr, who works tirelessly with the Board to meet increasingly difficult regulations and laws designed to thwart access to the legal procedure of abortion. Over 93% of funding received is given back to patients through their clinics. WRRAP hears heartbreaking stories of poverty, abuse, rape and desertion time after time; I know because I am also a volunteer and speak with clinic personnel on a regular basis. As important as it is to support organizations struggling to keep abortion legal and prevent the sort of anti-abortion laws that are being passed by the hundreds, it is the women who need help today, right now, that get left behind. With only one part-time staff member, WRRAP is able to give more than 90% of every dollar it raises toward helping women and girls who are making difficult decisions, strggling to keep their families together, and facing increasing legal obstacles every day.

WRRAP is an incredible organization. I was first interested in supporting WRRAP because it provides timely help to women who need a safe abortion or emergency contraception now. Legal and legislative efforts to keep abortion access available are important but do not help the woman who is pregnant today, unable to pay her rent, keep her job, avoid an abusive partner or otherwise deal with continuing her pregnancy. Staffed almost exclusively by volunteers, WRRAP is able to give 90% of its donations to the women (and girls) they help. it is one of only a few organizations to provide assistance on a nationwide basis.
I, along with several other volunteers, work every week for the Women's Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRRAP). Board members are volunteers. Although we work from - and collect funds in - California, we help underserved, and desperate, women nationally to pay for their abortions. Clinics all over the country contact us with their patients' problems and we provide assistance. I have been with this group for three years and know that, aside from minimal operational expenses (bank charges, phone, ink cartridges, etc.) every penny goes to those in need. Because we hear the particulars of situations, we know how awful the current climate and restrictive laws are: how much pain and suffering they cause women. Much praise should go to this non-profit; it's been pushing against the tide of intolerance for over 2 decades and continues to work tirelessly for all troubled women.
WRRAP is an extraordinary organization. Their work is what Christian values are all about. They help the most needy women and girls who are in the midst of a crisis, without any strings or requirements to pay back the grants that are given them through state-of-the-art health clinics all over the nation. More than 90% of the funding that WRRAP receives goes directly to help poor women and girls. That's a difficult number to beat for any non-profit. Board members and phone staff are all volunteers which is what keeps their expenses so low. It's a great place to give if you want to feel good about donating your hard earned money.
