Mission: West seattle garden tour annual net proceeds are donated as cash grants to local registered 501c3 organizations help advance our mission, which is to promote horticultural based interests, education and artistic endeavors within west seattle and neighboring communities. Each of the 6 project for 2017 includes one or more of these elements.
Programs: Delridge nieghborhood development association: wetlands restoration and stewardship project. The project provides opportunities for local area school children to have access and participation in an outdoor classroom that supplements environmental education curriculum developed by their teachers. arts west is a 501c3 org that provides live theater, promotes local artists and musicians and holds theater workshops for children. Our grant to their 2017 theater education program supported 5 student scholarships to the summer academy, paid royalties on the script and covered cost of sets and props. seattle children's play garden 501(c)3 , located in a public park in seattle, is designed for children of all abilities to safely interact with the plant world in the outdoors. This year wsgt helped fund renovation of the pollinator pathway garden the project completed as of november 2017 included repairing irrigation lines, installing bamboo barrier, replanting and mulching. city fruit project expanding west seattle public and private area fruit tree harvest. Funds covered cost of one additional contract seasonal laborer to harvest over 5000 lbs of fruit which is donated to local food banks and meal programs at the end of the 2017 harvest. one reel pianos in the parks community participation project presented the 4th annual free summer concert series featuring artist designed pianos, and performances by members of the general public. west seattle bee garden provides education about pollinators and plants and their role in ecology and in everyday life. They installed two nucleus bee colonies in preparation for the 2018 season. Wsgt covered 73 percent of the cost of bees, garden plants and materials, wasp traps, plus snacks and supplies for visiting students and volunteers.
