Mission: The well is a community of people committed to living in direct relationships with the poor. In these relationships we find a sense of kinship based not on blood but on grace and hospitality. The well meets material needs in a way that allows us to meet each other's spiritual needs.
Programs: In 2016 the well took its works of mercy program mobile, providing food and clothing to meet the needs of the community in various locations throughout the tampa area. Over 14 tons of groceries were shared during the year. We partnered with other local organizations, churches, and residents to provide these services. We continued to run a house for formerly homeless men who are working closely with our community. We housed 4 men all year and took in several for shorter stays. We hosted weekly community dinners, serving over 7,500 prepared meals, and monthly large evening community outreach parties. We planted and maintained community gardens in the area. Our eden project lawn crew continued to grow as a social enterprise, keeping 3 men employed and maintaining 30 contracts for work. Our well built bikes social enterprise project launched a retail space during the last quarter of the year, bringing in $4500 in sales in the first month open. Its earn-a-bike program provided dozens of bikes to those who would otherwise not have reliable transportation in tampa. The estimated worth of our services to the community is well over one million dollars in volunteer hours, food, clothes, bicycles, gardens, toiletries, etc. These are the ways that we worked to see our vision of 'needs met, bridges built, and a city made whole" in 2017.
