Geographic areas served: Theatre in Virginia
Programs: Vta advocated for the inclusion of the theatre arts in education and for fair and adequate arts funding in all communities of the state. Vta provided professional development opportunities for teachers using mini-conferences. Vta provided opportunities for actors to audition for the southeastern theatre conference, professional theatre companies, and many southeastern colleges. Vta organized high school, middle school and community theatre festivals in conjunction with their annual conference, as well as design competitions for costumes and scenery. Vta awarded two student scholarships to high school seniors who will be pursuing theatre as a college major.
VTA is a great organization that utilizes member and board resources across the state. They've got a very proactive board and division leadership and are always stretching outside the box to get involved in anything and everything within the Commonwealth.
VTA is one of the best run and responsive organizations with which I have ever had the pleasure to work. Their advocacy for theatre brings students, professionals and everyone one in between, to learn and grow and succeed. Truly, the love of theatre and its potential to bring us together and dream big is what enlivens the work of VTA.
Virginia Theatre has helped me to grow as a theatre educator and has broadened my scope of opportunities within the state of Virginia. It has opened new possibilities for my students and provided them with positive theatre experiences.
Professional with expertise in this field
For the past seven years, VTA has played a crucial role in providing me with educational and professional experiences, training, and networking. Through VTA I have been able to meet industry leaders, take workshops from a plethora of artists, and expand my knowledge of the modern theatre landscape. If you are a theatre practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia, VTA has something to offer to everyone, young or old, just starting or broadway veteran.
