Mission: To enhance and enrich the lives of people with disabilities by employing and empowering them in their communities.
Programs: Success program options offered at a 1:3 staff to consumer ratio. Unyeway's success program options include three programs that are provided at a 1:3 staff to consumer ratio, including the behavior management program, adult development center, and community based program. All programs and components operate separately, however there is a lot of opportunity to participate in shared activities. The adult development center is known not only for providing services to people who benefit from a 1:3 staff to consumer ratio, but also for its unique specialty components including our nursing component and psychosocial component. The nursing component has licensed vocational nurses present within the program. The psychosocial program has the extra benefit of priority access to a family life educator. Our behavior management program has the extra-benefit of having priority access to both the family life educator as well as our consulting psychologist. While the 1:3 staff to consumer ratio is the same in our adult development center, behavior management program, and community based program the focus of each is different. The adult development center focuses on increasing independence in self-care skills, functional living skills, self-direction skills, communication skills and community integration skills. The behavior management program focuses on replacing inappropriate behaviors with functionally equivalent appropriate behaviors and creating an environment where individuals are successful. Additionally, the behavior management program focuses on teaching self-advocacy, rights and responsibilities, as well as interpersonal and communication skills. The community based program focuses on accessing the community, developing natural supports in the community, learning community safety skills, and exploring local opportunities and resources in the community. Participants in thecommunity based program must be able to access the community at least 51% of the time they are at program (an average of 3+ hours each day).
