Mission: (1) provide training workshops to educate caregivers, teachers and social workers in subjects that can assist in helping the children of the balkans ;(2) provide educational opportunities that will assist young people in the balkans to obtain an education and to develop job skills ;(3) provide summer camps to children in schools and orphanages throughout the balkans; (4) provide assistance to special needs and disadvantaged children and their families to help them adjust to life; (5) provide instructors to instruct children in balkan orphanages.
Programs: International studies - during 2010, twi for the children conducted three major international studies projects for students and orphans in the balkans. This project seeks to provide educational opportunities for these students. Leadership training workshop in montenegro - in july 2010, twi hosted a three-day "leadership training workshop" in montenegro for university students from balkan countries to discuss topics of interest to these students. The twi leadership training workshop brought teams from bosnia-herzegovina, kosovo, montenegro, and serbia, to join a twi american team at the orphanage in bijela, montenegro. The participants from around the balkans and the united states participated in workshops and seminars of interest to the university students. This conference brought together students and adults from the different ethnic groups of the former yugoslavia and resulted in a better understanding of the concerns of each new balkan state.
humanitarian support projects - during 2010, twi for the children conducted two major humanitarian support projects. These projects provided assistance to orphanages, needy persons and to children with special needs in the balkans. Learning center for special needs children - twi financially helped to support the learning center for special needs children in sarajevo that works with special needs children and their families. The learning center is designed to teach children and their parents how to cope with their disability and become active, useful members of their communities. The learning center has been working with special needs children since 2002. The center provides educational and emotional assistance to more than 70 children monthly with crafts, music and school instruction for the children and group therapy for the parents. Unfortunately, the center will not be able to continue without full financial support from twi for the children. Support for twi coordinator - in 2010, twi for the children, inc. Provided support to its disabled transportation coordinator. The coordinator helped find drivers to provide transportation, maintains our van and helped with transportation for our projects.
camps for children in the balkans - twi has conducted camps for children throughout the balkans for the past fourteen years. Camps are conducted at schools in villages and in orphanages. Twi provided a combination of stories, games, crafts, song and dance designed to teach the children lessons in geography, ethics, reconciliation and love mixed with periods of recreation, fun and games. Teachers at these schools benefited by being introduced to new teaching techniques and methods. Schools and orphanages benefited from camp related donations of sports equipment and gifts for the teachers. In 2010, twi camp teams went to four schools and four orphanages in four balkan countries and worked with more than 800 children. During the summer of 2010, the twi team worked with orphanages and schools in serbia, kosovo, bosnia-herzegovina, and montenegro and with children with special needs in sarajevo, bosnia and herzegovina. The twi team also hosted a special camp for roma (gypsy) children in sarajevo.
