Mission: Thursday's Child was founded in 1981 out of a need for a flexible, caring and personalized agency that was both family and child centered. For many years professional services was donated and some still are. Most of the staff, board and consultants are adoptive parents as well as being professionals. The agency specializes in international placements and works with a variety of resources and governments, but also provides compassionate and comprehensive services to birthparents locally and gives priority to homefinding for minority, older and special needs youngsters. The agency provides modest assistance to children in other countries through social service programs aimed at women and children. Assistance is also given to qualified prospective parents through the Gertrude and Harry Arenson Family Builders Fund of Thursday's Child. The agency prides itself on the long-term support and relationships with adoptive families.
