Mission: Clean the World was founded in 2009 to address global health issues by using discarded hygiene supplies from the hospitality industry. Aiming to reduce the number of hygiene-related deaths, it began recycling soap into new bars to distribute to communities in need.
In 2015, Clean the World joined forces with the Global Soap Project, resulting in a consolidated nonprofit mission under the banner of The WASH Foundation, an evolution of Clean the World Foundation. The consolidation allowed us to go beyond just hygiene to include programs addressing sustainable access to water, sanitation, and feminine hygiene as well.
Today, our mission is simple, we will improve the quality of life of vulnerable populations through increased access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Results: Since 2009, with the help of NGO partners, we have distributed more than 85 million bars of soap to 127 countries and served close to 15 million people.
We work in close to 25 schools implementing our WASH in Schools program across LATAC and Africa and 5 healthcare centers training staff in our WASH in Healthcare Facilities program. We have provided close to 100,000 hot showers domestically to the unhoused community through our Fresh Start WASH and Wellness program. We have also distributed more than 5 million hygiene kits through our Global Emergencies Program.

I have recently volunteered for the Clean the World Foundation as they needed help to pack hygiene kits to send to the Maui fires after the devastating fires. I was so excited to be able to give more than money to help displaced people and felt great being able to give my time. I believe that the kits really made a difference for people who had lost everything. The event was actually way more enjoyable than I thought, and it was great to see that hundreds of people had chosen to volunteer as well.
The experience was fantastic. The workers were very helpful and informative. They made us feel welcome and appreciated. It was nice to help make a difference and to see where they came from.
We were a group of 18 people who volunteered. We packed 50,000 bars of soap to be shipped out to those who need it. We also sorted containers. It was a great experience.

Clean the world Foundation has a lot of issues such as unprofessional contact from the management, unstructured, poor record keeping, accounts payable issues as well as issues with not paying invoices on time which impact doing your job efficiently and effectively.
After volunteering for a while with Clean the World, I decided to join them when they did a distribution trip in Guatemala in April of 2015. They partner with an on the ground non-profit on their distribution trips, and this time it was Children's International. Clean the World is impressive in that they have designed a system of keeping partially used hotel soaps out of our landfills, and at the same time using that soap once sanitized and recycled into new bars, to help indigent people in very poor areas throughout the world. Using creativity, they teach young people about the importance of proper hand washing and distribute soap to them so the practice is kept up. It is a small, yet very impressive model.
I've had the pleasure of volunteering at Clean the World in Orlando for the past two years. The staff I've interacted with have all been professional and enthusiastic about their cause. The help they require from volunteers is easy and fun to provide, and you always leave feeling like you've helped make a difference. I would highly recommend this organization to anyone looking to contribute.
